Digital Programmable Logic Electronics Engineer Job Description

You will become part of the Converter Controls Electronics team of the Electrical Power Converters group and you will take on the role of programmable logic expert in the design and realisation of digital control electronics.

As digital electronics engineer, specialising in CPLDs and FPGAs: you will be responsible for designing and realising constituent parts of converter controls electronics.

Your main roles will be:

• Understanding and interpreting the existing designs of CERN's function generator controllers (FGCs), modernising them, and realising them in VHDL;
• Working on digital electronics designs used in power converter controls;
• Specifying, designing and implementing new programmable logic designs, using RTL code in VHDL;
• Realising test benches, and test procedures for the validation of these designs;
• Building a set of proven programmable logic cores to be used throughout the converter controls electronics systems;
• Putting in place a validation structure and system to ensure the correctness of programmable logic designs.

• Participation in a regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays and public holidays;
• Work in radiation areas;
• Interventions in underground installations.

Digital Programmable Logic Electronics Engineer Job Requirements

Education

• Master's degree in the field of digital electronics, or equivalent.

• Digital Electronics Design and Engineering: developing robust digital electronics;
• Programmable Logic Devices Design: design and realisation of electronics based on Field-Programmable Gate; Arrays and/or Programmable Logic Devices:
  • Proven experience in Xilinx and Actel FPGAs and CPLDs would be an advantage;
  • Experience in Xilinx ISE, Actel Libero, Synplify and TCL scripts would be an advantage;
• Code Versioning: proven experience in the use of code versioning systems and tools:
  • Experience in the administration of GIT repositories would be an advantage;
• Test and Validation of Programmable Logic: using test benches and behavioural models to validate the design of programmable logic systems;
• Experience in code coverage or formal verification would be an advantage.

• Design of electronics based on field programmable logic-based devices (FPGA); design of digital electronics;
• Design of programmable logic devices in VHDL;
• Using Code Versioning Systems.

• Spoken and written English: ability to draw-up technical specifications documentation and/or scientific reports.Basic knowledge of French or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
