    Program Manager Lightweight Automotive Job Description

    Within the Brightlands Materials Center, the Program Manager is responsible for the full management of a Shared Research Program. The Shared Research Program contains programmatic R&D following a Program Plan and long term Roadmap, to which companies are invited to become a partners. 
    One of the lead Programs within the Brightlands Materials Center is on Lightweight Automotive. It follows the strong driver in the worldwide Automotive industry to reduce weight to limit carbon emissions.

    • Within the Shared Research Program Lightweight Automotive, the focus is on Thermoplastic Composites (to meet increased production and recycling needs) and on thermoplastic foams.
    • The Program Manager is responsible for the short and long term strategy within his Program. He initiates and coordinates a portfolio of new projects or activities within with the goal to come to breakthrough technologies in which polymeric materials play a crucial role. 
    • The Program Manager plays an active role in setting up external collaboration with leading OEMs, Tiers and Resin Suppliers, with universities and research institutes and with other relevant players in the value chain (think of machine builders or other raw materials suppliers. In the R&D eco-system of collaborative partners, the Program Manager creates an inspiring technological environment in which the R&D leads to new insights and new breakthroughs in application technologies.
    • The Program Manager will take a leading role in acquisition of the major target partners in his Program. Based on industrial needs and available knowledge, he will build en execute his Program Plan. He is profit loss responsible for the finances within his Program.

    Program Manager Lightweight Automotive Job Requirements

    To be able to fulfil the above role, the Program Manager should have the following capabilities.

    • Academic education in Mechanical Engineering or related direction, preferably with a PhD in the field of polymeric materials and their applications. PhD in the field of thermoplastic composites is a clear advantage.
    • At least 10 years of experience in industry in the field of the application of plastics in Automotive, preferably with one the major players in the (lightweight) Automotive value chain.
    • You have worked in consortia with external parties.
    • You are customer orientated.
    • You have strong leadership capabilities and experience in leading (multidisciplinary) teams of professionals.
    • You have strong drive to succeed, you are results oriented, you are able to transfer your enthusiasm to your team.
    • You are capable to translate innovative ideas or concepts into practical research proposals and steer your team to execute these.
    • You have a strong experience in project or program management.
    • You have excellent communicative skills, you are fluent in English and very good in German.
