    SEEKING TECHNICAL GRADUATES

    Location: Shell Technology Centre Hamburg, Germany 

    The local business
    The B2C Lubricants Technology development team in our Shell Technology Centre Hamburg – part of the Global Commercial Technology organization within our Projects & Technology division – is a distributed team located principally in the US, Germany and China. The team’s primary purpose is to support our business growth objectives by developing and supporting technology-leading PCMOs (Passenger Car Motor Oils) for use with key automotive manufacturers (OEMs), and to develop differentiated products and claims for our key consumer brands. 

    Your role/scope
    As the Junior Project Leader, you will be a member of the European Engine Oil Team developing products and claims for branded PCMOs and developing products and providing additional technical support for EU Automotive OEMs. 

    Specific accountabilities include:

    • Provide support to product development and other technical partnership projects for Auto OEMs in Europe. This will include:
    • Responsible for specific product development activities with a focus on Automotive OEM applications
    • Support to establish and grow technical intimacy with Auto OEMs with the aim to grow Shell business
    • Develop deep expertise in specific technical areas linked to PCMO lubrication, formulation knowledge, tribology and rheology
    • Plan and follow through engine and vehicle test activities together with OEM representatives and operations teams.
    Although not specifically responsible for co-engineering projects, it is expected that this role will work in an integrated manner to grow and support key Auto OEM relationships, and will also have responsibility for projects providing strong technical support to these OEM partners.

    What we need from you: 

    • Suitable research science or engineering background (ideally a PhD or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry)
    • Understanding of Automotive engineering demonstrated either through education or in-job experience and genuine interest in automotive technology
    • Knowledge of Automotive lubricants applications and related industry specifications preferred
    • Commercial/business acumen
    • Strong team-working, inter-personal & networking skills demonstrated in a distributed cross-functional environment, operating to demanding technical targets and deadlines
    • Innovative and creative approach to problem solving
    • Lubricant and/or fuel product and additive knowledge preferred
