A structural packaging designer independently designs and develops new packaging concept and complete new packaging platforms for consumer electronics, using the latest trends and materials, finishing and technologies.
The structural packaging designer is the first person to fill in this function in the department of packaging development and will bring in experience in structural packaging design to help building this competence within department. The structural packaging designer should work closely together with communication design and marketing to come to new packaging directions balancing the costs, feasibility, logistics, premium-ness, unpack experience and retail requirements fitting in a logical range build-up within and between product ranges. The structural packaging designer should be able to work out the directions in CAD together with suppliers, organize the process until release and production. The structural packaging designer will create the roadmaps for different product categories in terms of packaging directions, concepts, materials and finishing based upon trends, own ideas and request from the markets.
Next to creating design directions and concepts, part of job is developing out packaging concepts within existing platforms until release and productions including 3D-CAD designing, working with suppliers and testing and releasing the concepts and handing them over to production.
The structural packaging designer is part of a project team to develop a new product and packaging or will be leading a small project team to create new packaging concepts. For the development of packaging ARTIOS-CAD, CAPE and Solidworks are used.
The structural packaging designer should have knowledge of standard packaging materials like paper/carton, plastics, paperpulp, etc and has knowledge about protecting products, logistics and printing technologies. The structural packaging designer should have good creative and conceptual design skills to be able to create new ideas and concepts and translate these ideas into feasible packaging concepts.
Preferred education: Industrial design
Experience: more than 3 years of experience in structural packaging design.
