    EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.

    EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users.

    Meteosat Mission Control Systems Operations Engineer VN 17/42 Job Description

    Do you have the engineering expertise to oversee mission control systems operations for all Meteosat Second Generation programmes? Can you help spearhead operations preparation for the next generation geostationary satellite systems?
     
    EUMETSAT is the European operational satellite agency for monitoring weather, climate and the environment, pulling together the resources of 30 Member States. We observe the atmosphere and ocean and land surfaces from Space using a system of satellites, 365 days a year, offering images and data to provide insights into weather situations, environmental hazards and climate change. Our work helps users worldwide to monitor changes in these to protect lives, lifestyles and properties.  Developing the next generation of satellites, we look to shape our future.
     
    We are committed to delivering space programmes with our partners and can offer you the chance to work in an international environment, with team members from many European states and beyond. We are recruiting for an engineer, based within the Flight Operations Division at our base in Darmstadt, Germany. In this role you will be responsible for the planning, supervision and execution of mission control systems operations for all Meteosat Second Generation missions, supporting the provision of associated operational services and participating in the operations preparation for the next generation Meteosat (MTG) system.
     
    In this challenging and professionally rewarding role you will conduct operations of ground systems for Meteosat mission control including planning of operations, anomaly handling and investigation. You will maintain the operations procedures, system databases and other operations tools and products used to support Meteosat mission control systems and contribute to the management of inter-dependent systems. Evaluation and trend analysis to monitor performance of current mission control systems will also form part of your role, as will co-ordination, maintenance and monitoring across all our operational systems. You will help manage evolutions of Meteosat mission control systems to increase capacity, performance and efficiency, and to eliminate obsolescence.
     
    Looking to the future, you will support the commissioning, operations preparation, and implementation of the Meteosat Third Generation system and participate in the re-engineering of mission control systems and operations preparation for the launch and commissioning of recurrent MTG spacecraft.

    Meteosat Mission Control Systems Operations Engineer VN 17/42 Job Requirements

    Alongside a university degree in Engineering, Computing, Physics (or equivalent) you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

    • experience in operations and maintenance of operational satellite mission control systems, preferably based on SCOS and/or Packet Utilisation Standards (PUS)
    • experience in operations preparation and commissioning
    • practical experience in supporting the development, formal verification and validation testing and operations preparation of an operational satellite system in the area of mission control
    • good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate ideas and issues clearly and concisely
    • an ability to plan and implement activities, including prioritisation according to constraints, inter-dependencies, and opportunities.
