The next generation of geostationary and polar satellites is due to come into operation in the early 2020s. Are you able to support our users and build on their existing experiences as we prepare for these important programmes?
EUMETSAT is the European satellite agency for monitoring weather and climate. Bringing together the resources of 30 Member States, we develop and operate a range of satellite systems surveying the atmosphere, ocean and climate that deliver data 24 hours a day. Our data is vital to weather forecasts that protect lives and property, and to monitoring the changing climate. EUMETSAT is now developing the next generation of satellite systems, shaping its long-term future.
We have two important opportunities for Future Missions Applications Experts to be based within our User Support and Climate Services Division. One role will focus on future planned applications from Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) and the second on similar services from EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation (EPS-SG). As an expert in the data and planned applications from these programmes, you will lead the engagement with our users, listen to their needs, and inform and advise them on how the new programmes may support these requirements. You will co-ordinate external and internal activities to prepare users for the future use of data and applications from MTG and EPS-SG respectively. During the operational phase you will provide support to users enabling the exploitation of services emanating from these missions.
Your main responsibilities will include managing user preparation activities within EUMETSAT and working with feedback on MTG or EPS-SG user preparations to enable users to optimise the data and products from these missions. You will plan user events and encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience on the application of next generation mission data between EUMETSAT Member States. Your role will involve engaging with future users at relevant meetings and workshops, and working with internal and external partners to support the provision of user information.
You will support the training team and help the education process through contributing to web content on the use of MTG or EPS-SG products in operations. As an expert in your particular mission you will respond to user enquiries, sometimes in collaboration with other team experts. You will assist in the evaluation of user uptake on current and future services, identifying areas where usage could be improved and providing management information on user preparedness activities.
Along with a University Degree in a relevant discipline, i.e. Meteorology, Atmospheric Science (or equivalent), you will have proven skills/experience in the following:
All applicants must be a EUMETSAT Member State national with a good working knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written. You also require some knowledge of French.
You will be asked to express a preference for your choice of role at the application stage.
The closing date is 4th October 2017. Interviews are provisionally booked for the week commencing 6th November 2017.
EUMETSAT is committed to providing an equal opportunities work environment for men and women and is seeking to recruit nationals from its Member States. Please see our website for further details.
