EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.
EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users.

We are looking for a team leader, able to utilise ITIL best practice to provide a range of computing services in support to the development and operations of EUMETSAT’s satellite ground systems.

We are recruiting for a Computing Services Team Leader, based within the Computer and Storage Management Competence Area of the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division at our base in Darmstadt, Germany. In this role you will be responsible for delivering computer services to support the development and operations of our satellite ground systems. You will be comfortable working in a service driven environment, operating in accordance with ITIL standards.
In this challenging and professionally rewarding role, you will lead a team of system administrators dealing with the routine maintenance of the operational computer systems across our organisation. You will manage our IT procurements and maintenance contracts. Designing architectural evolutions and managing upgrades, you will be an integral contributor to our future missions. You will have the opportunity to deputise for the Computer Systems Competence Area Manager (CSM CAM).
Alongside a university degree in Engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent), an ITIL qualification and awareness of IT security would be a distinct advantage. You need to have experience in the maintenance of large scale, operational computer systems – ideally in high-availability and time critical environments. You need to inspire your team to deliver a high quality service and ensure that their skills are enhanced to meet our future business needs. Being able to analyse complex situations and to present your ideas in logical and straight-forward manner is essential, as are excellent communication skills. You should have experience in UNIX, LINUX and MS Windows, along with a track record in all areas of hardware and software maintenance.
