JOB DESCRIPTION
The ESRF has started an ambitious modernisation programme named "Extremely Brilliant Source" (EBS) to replace the existing storage ring with a brand new storage ring with challenging characteristics. In a team of 17 software developers specialising in Beamline Control, you will contribute to the development of automation and the modernisation of control software for tomography experiments in view of the upgraded EBS experimental stations (beamlines).
As experiments require higher and higher throughputs of samples, greater automation is required, particularly at institutes like the ESRF, which operates 24h a day, 6 days a week. To achieve this goal, we need to modernize the control software for tomography experiments and to add a higher level of automation.
You will contribute to the design and implementation of the new tomography data acquisition software as well as to the experiment automation.
One major task will be the installation of a robotic sample-changer and the implementation of associated logistics to enable automatic sample centring and screening. The results of the automated procedures need to be made easily accessible to the scientists, who can thereby identify the best strategy for their experiments and use screening results to identify the best samples to be used for a full data acquisition. In parallel, you will work with the software engineers and scientists on the modernization of tomography data acquisition for EBS.
Your missions will be the following:
