Design Product Change Engineer Job Description

Brüel & Kjær Vibration Test Systems in Royston, UK is searching for a Design Product Change Engineer. Reporting to the Lean and Production Engineering Manager and based in Operations, the job holder will maintain for quality and manufacture the Electro-Mechanical Design of Standard and Special (custom) vibration test systems based on the standard LDS product range. The role will also encompass effective engineering design control, through quality technical documentation and bills of material in accordance to company standards & procedures.

Essential Functions and Duties:
 

1. Work in conjunction with operational and quality improvement team to introduce product or process improvements to maintain standard and special vibration test systems based on the standard LDS product range.
2. Develop new concepts through into detailed designs and manufacture.
3. Implement effective engineering design control & PLM for existing products through company PDM system & ECO in Oracle (ERP).
4. Design for Manufacture of new materials by calculation, FMEA / Risk Assessment, FEA (CosmosWorks), 3D CAD (SolidWorks), and legacy 2D CAD packages (ME10).
5. Structuring new designs in ERP system (Oracle). Compiling Bills of Materials and other essential documentation including Quality Standard documents (ISO9000).
6. When required, assist with modification to electrical designs, including printed circuit boards and assemblies.
7. Working to agreed timescales and communicating progress at regular intervals to all levels within the business.
8. Ensure design processes and finished products comply with legal and commercial standards.
9. Updates to product Technical Files.
10. Exceptional focus on Right First Time Design and minimizing warranty costs.
11. Coordination with Operations department to ensure correct information transfer and to assist with build and quality issues.
12. Ability to work of multiple projects at different phases in project lifecycle at the same time, and able to switch between priorities when required.

Design Product Change Engineer Job Requirements

Qualifications:

• Engineering Design (Electro-Mechanical) to Degree level, HNC considered with relevant experience.
• Previous Design for Manufacture experience preferably in hydraulics, pneumatics, medium to large scale fabrication.
• Proven track record Right First Time Design & Design to Cost.
• Knowledge of ISO 9000 with experience of implementing and developing quality procedures
• Competence on 3D CAD modeling using SolidWorks (and relevant analysis tool), Legacy 2D CAD, Microsoft office suite and Oracle (or other high end ERP system). Experience of a PDM/PLM system and electrical design packages would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of CE marking requirements and associated regulations.
• Good understanding of mechanical principles.
