Senior mechanical engineer Job Description

Engineers at frog deliver innovative design solutions for our clients. These responsibilities cover all phases of product development, from brainstorming and evaluating product concepts through troubleshooting and support on the factory floor. This role requires attention to the big picture and the details that make a difference. You will work throughout frog’s Discover/Design/Deliver lifecycle, on products ranging from mobile phones to CAT scanners. In this role, you will:

• Support design teams with your expertise to ensure frog delivers solutions that are both innovative and feasible
• Create innovative mechanical solutions that achieve the highest level of design quality and user experience in the final product
• Design and supervise the production of prototypes
• Evaluate and select appropriate production materials, technologies, and suppliers
• Capture and document formal and informal design requirements
• Design mechanical parts and assemblies, delivering detailed, production-ready 3D CAD models and 2D drawings
• Work with manufacturers and suppliers to optimize design for manufacturing and support production launch
• Collaborate with 3 rd party development partners and client technical teams to solve system design issues including integration of mechanics, hardware, and software.

Education:

• University degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline (e.g. Aerospace, Design engineering) + at least 5 years professional experience, or;
• Technical diploma in mechanical engineering or a related discipline + at least 10 years professional experience

• Experience in at least one of these fields: medical devices, consumer products, automotive interior
• development of products from concept to prototyping to manufacturing
• design for commonly used production technologies including injection moulding & sheet-metal
• development of products containing electronics and 'user interface' components e.g. keypads, touch screens, speakers, etc.
• Work with manufacturers and suppliers to optimize design for manufacturing and support production launch

• Expert user of Pro-Engineer 3D/2D
• Mechanical problem solving
• Ability to self-manage, and supervise the work of others
• Open mind and ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
• Business level knowledge of English and Italian
• A strong affinity for design and innovation

• Additional skills/qualifications in related disciplines (e.g. Design, electrical engineering, human factors, business)
• Experience in Medical Device development or other controlled environments e.g. automotive
• Mechanism design and Mechatronics
• Use of electronic rapid prototyping platforms e.g. Arduino
