Applied Physicist in acoustics and non-ionising radiations Job in Geneva, , Switzerland

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter, the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.

Applied Physicist in acoustics and non-ionising radiations Job Description

    Introduction
Are you a qualified and proactive acoustics and non-ionising radiation expert, willing to become a safety advisor at the heart of one of the world's most complex and exciting scientific experiments? Then this opportunity is for you. Join the largest particle physics research laboratory in the world! CERN, take part!

The job covers aspects such as: electromagnetic fields from distribution networks, electromagnetic interference between electronic equipment (EMC), radio frequencies from transmitters and accelerating equipment, non-coherent and laser optical sources and acoustic hazards from industrial processes and equipment (compressors, turbines, etc) respectively.
    You will:
    • Perform and/or validate acoustic studies and measurements on equipment to be installed on CERN's premises and propose suitable noise and vibration mitigation measures when needed.
    • Perform and/or validate studies related to NIR and perform related measurements.
    • Provide advice on laser safety, also inspecting CERN’s laser installations.
    • Provide support in safety audits, technical reviews and projects.
    • Check the conformity to safety requirements of engineering and tendering specifications.
    • Design and deliver safety training related to the domains in question.
