System Engineer Job Description

Eperium, manages and advises, realises and hosts webshops for major retailers and A-brands. These are environments where high availability, performance and service are very important. As foreman system engineer you are contributing for the Department together with your colleagues responsible for the entire infrastructure.

Our server park consists of large e-commerce environments in retail, fashion and B2B, among others. Eperium delivers these webshops in a SaaS model (Software as a Service). In short, all hard-and software is hosted, managed and supported by us. That means analysis and advice to the Organization and our customers, implementation and management of OTAP streets and managing and further professionalisation of a complete server park. Now we have more than 130 physical and virtual servers running. You will work with a fixed team of co-frontman, at a fixed location (our office in Weesp). Except with your immediate colleagues you work closely with application management, delivery and of course our colleagues in India. Optimizing the own Department and the cooperation with other departments is one of the challenges.

The challenges for the coming period are particularly in management system to further professionalize the management of our hosting environment. Examples are:
 

• Backup and disaster recovery
• Setup hosting for new platforms
• Professional (remote) management of existing environments optimizing infrastructure monitoring
• Professionalization of the cooperation with our Indian establishment to further standardize Processes (ITIL)

System Engineer Job Requirements

You are able to give structure to the environments and departments where you work. You plan the work of the Department and coordinates the execution. Itself are you also involved in implementation. By your proactive approach and sense of responsibility you forsee incidents and you know to convey this attitude also in your colleagues. E-commerce is a 24/7 service. This means that there are also outside office hours a call on you can be done for maintenance, but also for incidents.You use the tools availlable and advises the organization in the continuous improvement of the management and service to customers. Head and side issues you can separate well. Not only where it is about your own work, but also for the whole of the system administration. You set the right priorities for the Department and also to motivate colleagues to solve everything as soon as possible (and within SLAs). In your function you are primarily a generalist, but if it needs you can also cloak yourself in a topic.

Function requirements:
 

• HBO work and thinking level
• Good command of the Dutch and English language (oral and written)
• Stress-resistant good knowledge of SuSE Linux Knowledge of virtualization (preferably VM Ware)
• Knowledge of Oracle database management with extensive experience managing large complex environments and server network components such as firewalls and switches parks
• Knowledge knowledge management methodologies such as ITIL is an advantage
