Hard- and Software Verification & Validation Engineer Job Description

Azalea Vision, a Ghent-based venture-backed start-up and a spin-off from IMEC and Ghent University, is developing a platform for Smart Contact Lenses with embedded electronics. Our first application implements an artificial iris for patients suffering from iris deficiencies.
 
Our team is currently developing and integrating all components into the final design of the device in close cooperation with leading technology partners. We are now at the forefront of testing all hard- and software components. The hard- and software V&V engineer will build and operate in-house a testing environment for the electronic and software components, work closely with our subcontractors and manage final verification and validation with external accredited test centers.
 
Your accountability and objectives

• You design and manage the verification and validation tests of the electronic / software components in accordance with design control methodologies (ISO13485  / CFR) in our eQMS system.
• You are responsible for setting up an in-house testing environment and performing the verification/ validation tests of the integrated system during development.
• You communicate with and manage the sub-contractors who develop the electronic / software sub-components (both ASIC and PCB electronics).
• You support the optical system engineer in automating optical test setups.
• You manage the final electrical verification and validation with external accredited test centers.
• You design and program test software on tablet/smartphone.
• You contribute as the electronics, firm-, software expert to current and future projects.

Hard- and Software Verification & Validation Engineer Job Requirements

Your profile

• You have a master´s degree in a relevant field of electronics / computing / science and you have a passion for electronics and software preferably with several years of relevant experience in software, firmware or system development.
• You have experience testing complex hard- and software systems, preferably in a highly regulated industry e.g. medical devices.
• In addition to an excellent theoretical background, you are hands-on and have practical experience in electronic design, PCB layout, microcontroller firmware, Python, writing test cases in pseudo code, electrical measurement equipment, test automation, smart device programming, …
• Experience with common good laboratory / testing / software development practices.
• Experience with design controls under ISO13485 / 21 CFR 820.30 and understanding of regulatory requirements for designing / testing electronic / software medical devices (IEC60601; ISO 14971; IEC 62366; IEC 62304) or open to getting to know them.
• You are both an independent and team worker and you communicate in an open and transparent way.
• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• You are comfortable with a hands-on start-up culture where a can-do mentality, versatility, proactivity, and eagerness to learn make the difference.
• A touch of perfectionism fits the testing challenge.
