    SENIOR RELIABILITY ENGINEER Job in Nottingham, England

    Part of Romax Technology’s ongoing investment in R&D is to develop methodologies and concept designs for wind turbine drivetrains. An R&D Engineer is required to develop these design methods, criteria and models for designing drivetrains incorporating mechanical, electrical and control components. The role will involve developing design concepts for mechanical components such as the gearbox, mainframe and bearings as well as creating and protecting new IP which Romax develop in the course this work. Romax Technology regularly undertake consultancy projects for wind turbine manufacturers, drivetrain designers or turbine operators. The R&D Engineer will be required to contribute to and deliver these projects. These projects may involve modelling and analysis using Romax’s drivetrain simulation software, RomaxWIND.

We seek an enthusiastic and talented individual with a broad skill set appropriate to a variety of critical development activities to deliver the Romax vision.

    Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Development of analysis methods to determine the reliability of wind turbine components, sub-systems and operating procedures
    • Collection and analysis of reliability and availability data from different data sources
    • Preparation of diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations, and reports for defining reliability problems
    • Development of systems and tools that will continuously, and where possible, provide step change improvements in the availability of wind turbines
    • Creation of a costing model for reliability problems considering the cost limitations for equipment up/down time, repair/replacement costs, weight, size, and availability of materials/equipment
    • Review and analysis of event reports issued by wind farms, making sure that event circumstances are sufficiently detailed and data is available for investigation. Where data and information are not detailed enough, propose a standard procedure and template to collect the data and any relevant information needed
    • Put forward proposals to improve Reliability and Availability management systems, making them more efficient and adequate
    • Make sure that all reliability related events are covered with investigation of a relevant level (RCA) - facilitate and support RCA-studies.
    • Set-up a reliability database across different disciplines and keep the database up to date

    SENIOR RELIABILITY ENGINEER Job Requirements

    Experience and Qualifications:

    • Typical Education: MS/PhD Degree (Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics) or equivalent
    • Minimum work experience in a relevant field/speciality of over 5 years
    • Application experience and coaching skills are essential; particularly for reliability management systems and analysis.
    • Good understanding of typical failure modes and troubleshooting procedures, root cause analysis (RCA)
    • Experienced in delivering R&D and analysis projects
    • Strong communication skills including giving presentations, writing engineering or scientific reports, leading client meetings and running internal project meetings
