Field Support Engineer Job Description

Venator International Recruitment is seeking a Field Support Engineer to join a large global Broadcast Media organization, to be based in Farnborough. The successful candidate will find themselves positioned within the company’s field support team, providing technical support for major UK accounts along with other customers throughout the EMEA region. 

Responsibilities

• Maintain close relations with the customer’s internal technical support teams
• Travel to customer sites to rectify problems
• Participate in UK on-call Rota to provide 24x7 on-site Support
• Remotely trouble shoot
• Analysis of MPEG streams and IP captures, system fault finding to unit level.
• Assess customer needs and to provide solutions.
• Utilize established processes, initiate issue escalations to EMEA Technical Assistance Centre (TAC).
• Provide accurate description and support data to assist quick resolutions.
• Install and integrate small digital video systems at customer premises.

Field Support Engineer Job Requirements

Skills and Expertise Required

• Travel requirements: Regular travel throughout the UK and EMEA region.
• Fluent in English (more languages an advantage)
• Superior problem solving, analytical and communications skills required. Independent working and completion of tasks.
• Understand technical documentation including schematics, rework instructions, acceptance and test procedures etc.
• Fluent in PC based programs such as Windows/Windows Office. Knowledge of Unix based systems is desirable but not essential.

• Knowledge of contemporary date digital video system solutions (DBS, Cable, Telco, Terrestrial, Mobile, Wireless, etc.)
• Knowledge of video signal processing and video quality for Standard and High Definition.
• Strong working knowledge of MPEG-2/MPEG-4 H.264/AVC/DVB.
• Strong IP networking background, IP Multicasting and associated protocols.
• Conditional Access System, Network Management Systems.
• Knowledge of Multiscreen environments and Mobile technologies such as Apple, Flash, Microsoft Smooth Streaming, adaptive bit rate etc.

• Experience with DV manipulation techniques such as Rate Shaping, Transcoding and DPI are advantageous.
