    Thule Towing Systems B.V. is based in Staphorst and develops, manufactures and distributes towbars for the car industry and the car after market. The company is part of Business Area Towing.

    Due to running and future projects within our Research & Innovation department we are looking for a: 

    Mechanical Product Engineer Research & Innovation (R&I)

    The department:


    The Research & Innovation department of BU Towing is responsible for:

    • System development: All new functionalities (a.o. detachability, electric deploy ability) of towing systems are being developed within the R&I department. These developments run within the R&I department from concept generation up till start of production.
    • Basic research: On certain topics (a.o. FEA, data acquisition, materials) the R&I department performs basic, non-project related, research. This research requires and builds on good theoretical knowledge of these topics.
    • System aftercare: Of all (formerly) developed systems, the R&I department stays technical responsible. Complaints from the market are discussed and analyzed together with other departments in order to build our knowledge even further.
       
    Next to the R&I department, two departments develop car specific towbars, containing the developed systems and research knowledge, both for the Original Equipment (OE) market as for the After Market (AM). Within the Thule Group, the BU Towbars works closely together with BU Trailers (Scandinavia, Poland) and BA Outdoor (Scandinavia). Some of the tools used are: Pro/Engineer, Pro/Mechanica, a fully equipped workshop for prototyping, state-of-the-art measuring and test equipment. Most of the development and release testing is performed in house to get direct feedback on results. Also the production of the developed systems is done in house, resulting in very short lines between production and engineering.

    Job description:

    As a Mechanical Product Engineer, you’ll be participating in all of above responsibilities, with the focus on your preferred activity. You’ll also have the opportunity to coordinate bigger projects within the R&I department and in cooperation with other departments, clients and suppliers.

    Mechanical Product Engineer Job Requirements

    Job requirements:

    You are a graduated mechanical engineer (HBO+/WO) with strong analytical skills. More important than working experience, is knowledge of 3D CAD and an innovative, highly motivated attitude. You have to control the English language well in writing and speaking. Extra advantages in your resume are good knowledge of German, good knowledge of FEM, knowledge of electronics, automotive experience and affinity.
