Assistant Professor in mathematics - specialization mathematical Analysis Faculty of
Physical Sciences - University of Iceland - Reykjavík
The University of Iceland enjoys an international reputation as a research and educational institution. More than 14.000 students are registered at the University of Iceland. About 1.300 permanent members of staff and more than 2.000 part time teachers and assistants are employed by the University.
The School of Engineering and Natural Sciences is one of the five Schools that make up the University of Iceland. The School has more than 2.200 registered students and close to 200 academic members of staff plus a large number of part time and temporary staff. The School's employees work on a wide variety of research projects, often in cooperation with scientists at other institutions and private companies in Iceland and abroad. The School offers Bachelor and postgraduate degrees in all major fields of engineering and natural sciences.
The Mathematics Group at the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences belongs to the Department of Physical Sciences. Members of the group work on a variety of research projects in pure and applied mathematics and teach and supervise graduate students in various branches of mathematics . They teach students in the University's Bachelor programme in mathematics and also teach mathematics to students in other subjects, mainly engineering. The future aims of the group are to increase the research output both in quantity and quality and to seek more outside grants to support cooperation with other mathematicians and enable the group to hire more post-docs and graduate students. Regarding teaching the future aims are to continue offering high quality, ambitious education that conforms to modern day standards regarding content and teaching methods. In particular the aim is to use computers and information technology in an efficient way while also developing a good and solid theoretical understanding.
