In March 2012, ThromboGenics signed a strategic partnership with Alcon (Novartis) for the commercialization of ocriplasmin outside the US. 
On March 22, 2013, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved JETREA® in the European Union.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented scientist with strong background and proficiency in the area of ocular diseases to integrate into a team of 5 scientists and 10 technicians. The team develops pre-clinical models of eye diseases and technologies to enable the progress of novel therapeutics to treat back of the eye diseases. 
This full-time position is office-based at the Headquarters in Leuven, Belgium.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participation in ophthalmic research activities. Substantial input into the identification of suitable mechanistic targets and opportunities for relevant conditions in the eye
• Management of internal projects/research topics across different functional teams within ThromboGenics
• Development of new and optimization of existing assays as a team member of a drug discovery project.
• Select, develop, perform & evaluate research methods and/or new standard operating procedures
• Conduct preclinical pharmacology studies for new investigational pharmaceuticals

Scientist Ophthalmology Job Requirements

Profile

• You have a Ph.D. in (Applied) Biological Sciences or (Bio)Medical Sciences 
• You have a general broad ophthalmology knowledge 
• You have specific knowledge of DR/DME models and/or rat models 
• You have experience with drug development up to Phase I
• You have ADME knowledge and you have experience with large animals like pig and rabbit in study design
• You are result oriented and have strong analytical skills
