Lead Engineer steering systems Job Description

Approba is currently looking for a Lead Engineer Steering Systems for concept development and the industrialization of passenger cars for our partner Benteler Engineering Services in Helmond, The Netherlands.

The main responsibilities of the Lead Engineer Steering Systems regarding the passenger car steering system are:

• Manage and advise on a specific concept design program.
• Manage and advise, regarding the construction, concerning the relevant design program in accordance with the customer’s processes and procedures and to the agreed cost and timing requirements
• Manage and advise on scheduled workloads, work distribution, program priorities and quality targets and advise on design recommendations, in line with project cost and timing targets.
• Analyse and interpret CAE and physical test data, clearly identify the root cause of each issue, to be able to advise others regarding counter-measure strategy and the actual counter-measures to be taken for construction improvements.

General qualifications:

• Education level bachelor / master mechanical and/or automotive engineering
• Leadership, in combination with team player skills.
• Able to manage and execute development programs successfully in terms of deadline, targets and budget in a solutions-driven environment.
• A very co-operative, pro-active and action driven attitude.
• Open and transparent communicator at a horizontal as well as at a vertical level.
• Able to convince development partners based on the conclusions derived from CAE and test result analysis, supported by benchmark investigations.
• Fluent in the English language, German is an advantage..

• In depth knowledge of all relevant mandatory European and US requirements concerning steering systems of passenger cars.
• In depth knowledge of the complete vehicle’s behaviour aspects in relation to the braking system.
• Basic knowledge of control systems based on Flexray  protocol.
• Able to understand and interpret the results of the most common CAE software such as Nastran, Abaqus and Adams.
• Able to create convincing Powerpoint presentations covering brake system design strategy and solution proposals.
• Basic knowledge of level Catia V5.
