Supplier Quality Engineer Job Description
Position Description:
Build strength in the supply base. Visit Suppliers regularly. Monitor supplier’s performance, develop and maintain quality systems relative to the supply base, compliance reporting, inspection methods / instructions, acceptance criteria for evidence of continual improvement and product compliance to customer/ client Requirements, Encourage VAVE initiatives with suppliers. Drive the resolution of supplier issues in 8d/A3 format. Feed forward supply critical information to the Plant in Liberty, Missouri.
Responsibilities:
Manage complex and potential high risk supplier situations related to part/process development
- Evaluate new suppliers
- Perform current supplier process assessments through Launch Phase and SOP afterwards assessments as needed.
- Perform launch supplier readiness assessment and drive the required action plans through the APQP template.
- Perform PPAP activity and conduct Run at Rate activity at Suppliers. Report Supplier status with regards to PPAP documentation and submittals to plant Management.
- Improve, monitor, and report supplier’s performance (cost, quality and timing)
- Review supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Implement error proofing as required for supplier manufacturing processes
- Drive closure of issues related to manufacturing feasibility, target costs and timing.
- Determine part critical characteristics and require process controls.
- Monitor part qualifications and Supplier certification processes.
- Determine cause of supplier quality problems and coordinate/implement effective and timely resolution.
- Administer and coordinate supply web for PPM Reporting.
- Actively participate with program development teams.
- Support LMV Plant Operations as needed for critical supplier process issues
- Complete special projects as required.
- Perform all functions in legal, ethical, and professional manner.
- Drive supplier compliance to all TS 16949 requirements.
- Aware of Safety, Health and Environmental policies.
- Supports efforts to achieve department and plant goals on Employee Opinion Survey.
- Perform other duties as required.
Relationship to Others - Report directly to the Quality Assurance Manager.
- Communicate and work closely with supply base and customer regarding directed suppliers.
- Work closely with Senior QE, Dimensional QE, Maintenance, Production and Engineering on Product Compliance and Acceptance.
- Work closely with LMV QEs & Quality Technicians as a resource in Problem Solving, Inspection, Acceptance Criteria, and Continuous Improvement.
- Assist supplier’s in their efforts toward continuing quality development and in meeting AIAG/Customer/LMV quality requirements.
Qualifications - B.A or B.S. Degree in Engineering, Quality Sciences or other relevant study area.
- Two (2) years minimum experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer or other Quality Position.
- Supervisory experience within a quality function.
- Working Knowledge of GD&T.
- Can Read engineering drawings.
- Proficient in MS office software and the use of statistical software packages.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Facilitation skills and training skills and abilities.
- Organizational skills and abilities.
- Ability to travel on short notice.
- Knowledge of AIAG, Automotive Customer, or similar quality requirements.
