    Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork is one of Europe's leading research centres, specialising in ICT hardware research, with ca 420 staff, students and academic & industrial visiting researchers. Tyndall undertakes internationally-leading research into information and communications technology.

    Tyndall uses its facilities and expertise to support industry and academia nationally and provides large numbers of highly qualified graduate students, key to the development of Ireland’s national economy. Tyndall has over 200 industry partnerships and customers worldwide. Several start up companies in Ireland have been based on technology originating at Tyndall. The Institute’s researchers include 125 PhD and 10 Masters students, and 38 nationalities are represented within the institute at all levels, with its research published in 200 peer reviewed publications last year.

    (MG-7) Program Manager: Industry & Agency Funding Job Description

    Responsibilities:

    • Identifying industry related grant calls complementary to Tyndall’s research & development objectives and promoting these internally with researchers and centers and externally with Industry clients.
    • Maintaining a detailed understanding of all aspects of new and existing state funding programmes, evaluating criteria and new mandatory national guidelines in relation to intellectual property management and exploitation for impact in Ireland.
    • Identifying opportunities for Tyndall to lead coordinate projects based on our ICT platforms and capabilities to establish the best industry and research partners to deliver optimum value solutions to industry with predefined impact deliverables.
    • Managing relationship with each grant agency contacts for specific calls, Tyndall-based proposals for new projects, interim progress gate reviews and site visit evaluations.
    • Overseeing and contributing to the writing of the non-scientific elements of Research proposals or grant applications especially budgets, resource plans, costings, project deliverables and   predefined value impact statements from Tyndall.
    • Working in close collaboration with the OTT office to have key files from our IPR portfolio evaluated by targeted companies in Ireland and leverage our BIP into new IIPP, SEAI or other programmes to drive commercialization.
    • Working with the Tyndall Research and Technology Centers in the establishment of a detailed enhancement & training Project Management programmes for researchers and an execution plan of managing all stages of the interaction between industry partners and agencies with Tyndall research staff, drafting and validating all Project Submissions, Impact statements and Project Management deliverables. 
    • Promoting and increasing Tyndall’s participation in other International Grants with an Irish dimension in relevant thematic areas that will support enterprise innovation and development on an all Ireland basis.
    • Working closely with Tyndall business development colleagues on contracts, communications and interfaces as needed with Technology Transfer Office with special emphasis on communications of the value benefits and returns from each collaboration to the Irish economy.
    • Maintaining a funnel of all industry prospects for collaboration with regular review and consolidation for use across all centers in building larger scale projects.
    • The Programme Manager will be required to undertake quality assurance audits on industry sector research projects to ensure that all budgets and target deliverables are achieved on schedule in accordance with Tyndall’s ISO 9001 approved quality management system.
    • Other duties & responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Business Development as required in support of a team based approach to optimize value from our ICT research.

    Qualifications and Requirements
     

    • Honours degree in science or engineering.  Postgraduate qualification in technology, project management and/or business is highly desirable.
    • Significant experience in the implementation of Project Support for Funding, and the development of Project Management best practices as required in industry collaborations.
    • Industry experience track record in managing industry related team projects and or business development of technology related innovation.
    • Experience in the development and online documentation of project management procedures in accordance with international best practice to facilitate regular reviews.
    • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the challenges of research project management and implementation to industry defined roadmaps and timelines.
    • Knowledge of and experience in the Irish and International agency funding environment
    • Strong communication, team management, presentation and negotiation skills.
    • Experience in innovation, change management and training programme implementation.
