Senior Technician Upstream Processing Job Description

The USP department is responsible for the development of scalable, pharmaceutical-grade production processes for viral vaccines (e.g. Influenza, Polio, HIV) using mammalian cell lines as a production platform. Novel technologies are used to make sure that the processes are safe, reliable, scalable and cost-effective, so that the vaccines can be produced in large quantities at low costs.

The developed production processes are transferred into the GMP production facility for the production of tox and clinical batches and scaled-up for commercial production. All activities are performed in close collaboration with other departments.

We are looking for a Senior Technician who is motivated to work in a multidisciplinary and international environment. As a Senior Technician you are responsible for coordination, supervising and practical realization of experiments in bioreactors of different sizes and formats. Evaluation of the results is performed together with the scientist. You are a team player with excellent communicational skills. Beside project tasks, you are also responsible for part of the lab organization. You also coordinate and execute general lab tasks and continuous improvements. Most of the experiments are performed under BSL2 or BSL2+ conditions.

Senior Technician Upstream Processing Job Requirements

What does Johnson & Johnson require of a Senior Technician:

• MLO (IVE) with minimally 8 years of relevant experience or HLO (BSc) with minimally 5 years of relevant experience.
• Training in (bio) process engineering, bio chemical engineering or comparable studies.
• Practical experience with cell culture and bioreactor processing.
• Experience with quality systems, like GMP is an advantage.
• The ideal candidate must be accurate, flexible, show initiative and a team player.
• A can-do attitude is key for this position.
