Laboratory Technician - Neuronal Wiring Job Description

The Vesalius Research Center (VRC) is one of the research departments of VIB, located at KU Leuven – Campus Gasthuisberg.  Within the VRC actually we have 8 research groups with an employment of about 140 researchers, administrative and technical collaborators. The Lab of Neuronal Wiring of Prof. Dietmar Schmucker is currently looking for a hands-on enthusiastic laboratory technician to join the team:

• You will work closely with a group of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students investigating developmental mechanisms of neuronal wiring of the new vertebrate model organism Xenopus tropicalis
• You will assist in experiments covering a broad range of techniques (microinjections, dissections, screening, fluorescent and confocal microscopy)
• Your first responsibility will be managing and taking care of our Xenopus tropicalis lines (including raising, daily feeding, breeding and genotyping)
• You will be responsible for performing a wide range of research experiments in the area of molecular biology such as RNA and DNA extractions, cloning, PCR etc. 
• You will also have the opportunity to learn state-of-the art genome engineering techniques in Xenopus such as CRISPR/TALEN technology

Laboratory Technician - Neuronal Wiring Job Requirements

• You obtained a degree of professional bachelor in biomedical laboratory technologies/biotechnology or equivalent 
• You have a strong interest in working with aquatic animals 
• You have the ability to quickly learn new techniques and work independently
• You are responsible and have excellent attention to detail
• You have good organizational and documentation skills
• You communicate fluently (written and spoken) in English and Dutch
