Team/division description

Our TME European R&D centre is responsible for planning, development and production-support of vehicles aimed at -and locally produced for- the European market. Our target is to develop cars that match and exceed European customers’ requirements and expectations.

The Engine Application team is part of the Powertrain Engineering group. Our main activity is calibration of the engine’s electronic control unit in order to meet the various requirements and expectations placed upon modern vehicles; low emissions, low fuel consumption, power performance, low noise, durability, fun-to-drive,….

To achieve this, we are relying on various physical testing methods (engine benches, vehicle roller test cell, test track driving,…) as well as software tools for data processing, visualization, analysis and automated optimisation.

Your project

Stringent boundaries imposed by ever stricter emission regulations, combined with high expectations on vehicle performance, fuel consumption & comfort, result in engine systems with complex control strategies.

Calibration of a modern diesel engine calls for up to 10.000 different parameters to be optimised in the engine’s electronic control unit.

Your task:

Support our calibration engineers team for EU6 and pre-development projects in their daily activities:
 

• Engineer calibration support -> calibration at engine bench: prepare test plan, perform measurements, analyse the data and calibrate ECU parameters with engineer support, and report
• Engineer calibration support -> calibration at chassis dyno or vehicle: prepare test plan, performmeasurements, analyse the data and calibrate ECU parameters with engineer support, and report
• Endurance data analysis support: gather data from endurance test, post-process and anlyze data with existing tools and report results to responsible engineer.
• Engine application tools and standards creation linked to your activity

Your profile
 

• Master or Bachelor in mechanical engineering looking for a long-term internship to gather practical business experience
• High interest for engine development and cars development in general
• Flexible team player
• Open personality able to work in an independent way, hands-on mentality
• High motivation – perseverance
• Strong working methods / efficiency
• Basic computer skills: Word, Excel (macros, charts).
• Basic programming skills (MatLab, calibration,…)
• Fluent in English, any other European language is a plus
• Owner of a driving licence
