Molding and Plastics Expert in Purchasing Department Job Description
Function
The successful candidate will join a global team based in Europe to work with global suppliers on new projects related to high precision plastic moulded components including complex insert moulding and connectors for automotive applications. Supplier interaction will be technical in nature and while working with an extended team of project managers and engineering. Primary focus will be on executing technical discussions with suppliers to ensure timely, cost effective, quality decisions are made to bring a part to market.
Main duties will include:
- Interfacing with Global sourcing team to ensure sourcing strategy is relevant to the technical needs of Sensata and that New Product Development (NPD) programs are executed according to the sourcing strategies;
- Managing the sourcing of all moulding components for NPD programs;
- Liaising with purchasing peers in Europe to understand the priority components that need to be addressed;
- Reviewing supplier tooling approach and ensure mould design is in line with Sensata standards;
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement including material and design applications.
In this role you will be interfacing with the supply base in China, US, Mexico, and Europe. The will have a significant impact on the quality of the purchasing function and will bring a higher level of technical expertise to a challenging commodity.
Molding and Plastics Expert in Purchasing Department Job Requirements
Requirements
- University degree and minimum of 3 years similar recent experience;
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead cross-functional teams;
- Detail oriented approach with strong analytical capabilities;
- Fluency in English is a must;
Excellent knowledge of molding to include:- Mould design Class I requirement for class A Moulds;
- Design for manufacture (split lines, line of draw, wall thickness optimization);
- Knowledge of commodity and engineering polymers;
- Basic polymer science (amorphous/semi-crystalline, shrinkage, flow rate, Tg/Tc/Tm);
- Knowledge of tooling design and construction e.g material options, use of; slides/cylinders, inserts, cooling/heating options, cold/hot feed systems, ejection design;
- Knowledge of 3D Modeling software;
- Basic understanding of GDT and of Gauge design or measuring methods.
The following will be considered as an advantage:
Commercial knowledge of procurement, working with peers to understand cost drivers and trade-offs in design of tools.
