R&D Packaging Engineer Job Description

Packaging Deployment Engineer

For our client we are looking for a Packaging Deployment Engineer, based in the Utrecht area. 
Manage all packaging for the region, ensuring specifications are in place to guarantee quality of products. Work closely together with the packaging innovation engineers to ensure all regional requirements are met for new packaging innovations. Be part of the regional portfolio team, working with marketing and supply chain, to agree on the regional packaging strategy, incl. modifications to existing packaging, packaging range harmonization, support new customer sales, roll-out to other regions

Main responsibilities

• Ensure Regional Packaging requirements are part of the Innovation briefs and be the Regional Packaging Gatekeeper to the innovation teams to guarantee a full proven implementation of the new packaging into the region
• Be the R&D packaging expert in working with marketing and supply chain to manage the packaging range in Europe through the POM's
• Develop and implement new packaging (components) on a regional level for projects that are out of the Innovation Development process scope
• Ensure projects and products are delivering against pre-defined set of criteria based on agreed briefs
• Use and apply appropriate Design for Lean Six Sigma tools in the packaging qualification process, such as FMEA's and Design of Experiments in co-operation with the Engineering laboratory teams
• Ensure all packaging specifications and drawings are up-to-date and agreed with the suppliers and all documentation is captured in the Product Life Cycle management systems

R&D Packaging Engineer Job Requirements

• Bachelor/Master Degree, Trained packaging, mechanical or industrial design engineer
• Experience with packaging testing and test methods
• Good CAD skills preferably 3D Solidworks
• Good knowledge of engineering standards
• Good knowledge of packaging production, packaging materials and filling techniques
• Good understanding of product life cycle management and project management
• Preferrably understanding of interaction between chemicals and packaging materials
• Familiarity with UN packaging compliance regulations preferred
• Familiarity with Design for Lean Six Sigma tools preferred, such as FMEA's, Design of Experiment etc preferred
• Understanding of document and revision control
• Organised individual, can prioritise yet work on multiple projects to meet deadlines
