    Spectroscopist (MSc Chemistry)

    Goal of this function
    We are looking for a MSc level Chemist with an analytical mindset. Candidates with an MSc in Analytical Sciences and/or proven experience in the field are particularly encouraged to apply for this position. We also encourage Bachelor candidates with relevant working experience to read on about this position.
    We are looking for someone that will develop her/himself into the leading Spectroscopy scientist over the next 5+ years.

    Goal of the job is to perform (non-)routine and developmental spectroscopy measurements for the R&D project teams. Developing new methods and instrument responsibility is part of the work, as well the use of statistical tools to monitor and improve quality of the analyses. Affinity with IR/Raman imaging and/or Scanning Electron Microscopy is a pre, but not necessary.

    Your tasks and responsibilities as a Spectroscopist

    • Translating analytical questions into project plans and experimental designs
    • Guiding and conducting experiments and (parts of) research projects in collaboration with ARQ experts
    • Building and maintaining networks inside (R&D and plant) and outside the company (suppliers)
    • Developing new and improving existing methods and tools
    • Reporting of campaigns, results and methods in Dutch and English
    • Acting as project lead for (parts of) ARQ projects

    What do you bring?

    • MSc, preferably in Analytical Sciences or Bachelor level with a proven relevant track record
    • Hands-on experience and knowledge of spectroscopy (Raman and IR)
    • Work experience in a (business) research environment

    Albemarle and the ARQ

    At our site at the banks of the river the IJ in the north of Amsterdam, Albemarle produces catalysts for refineries. Besides several plants, Research and Development is an important activity at this site. 

    The Analytical Research and Quality department (ARQ) provides and develops analytical services to the Refinery Catalysts R&D product groups and production facilities in Amsterdam. Two expertise areas of ARQ are Spectroscopy and Electron Microscopy, both of which are used to serve the plant and R&D department with quality control and research measurements.
