EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.

EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users.

Data Processing Operations Manager Job Description

Our data is crucial for weather forecasting and environmental monitoring, and you could be a key part in this.

Meteorological satellites are an invaluable asset for weather forecasting and understanding of our changing climate, and their role will grow increasingly important with the next generations of our systems.

We are looking for a Data Processing Operations Manager to lead our expanding Data Processing Operations Team and to exploit this potential. 

• You will be involved in recalibrating and reprocessing data, extracting climate records, and making them available to downstream applications and scientists.
• You will be at the heart of all of our missions, helping us to understand and interpret the information we gain from our satellites.
• You will manage our growing team responsible for data processing and product extraction systems. 
• You will maintain the schedules for generating our meteorological and environmental products.  Ensuring the quality of our data processing, you will report and investigate anomalies. 

Data Processing Operations Manager Job Requirements

With a strong analytical focus, you will interpret complex information and make sound decisions based on the information gathered by your team. 

As an expert in data processing, you will work with our user community to improve our current and future services. 

Along with a degree (or equivalent), in computing, engineering or a technical discipline, you will be able to demonstrate that you have the skills and experience in the following areas:

• developing, testing and/or verification and validation of data processing systems embedded in complex operational systems
• managing operations of complex Earth observation or meteorological data processing systems, including monitoring of quality of outputs, preferably for the provision of real time data services
• managing technical teams and projects involving interactions with scientists
• ability to apply excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interactions within a team and between teams
