    EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.

    EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users.

    As an intergovernmental European Organisation, EUMETSAT has 30 Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.)

    Meteosat Spacecraft Operations Engineers (2 posts) (VN 17/41) Job Description

    Are you an experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineer (SOE) able to manage routine spacecraft operations whilst also supporting the preparation of operations for future geostationary satellites?
     
    EUMETSAT is the European satellite agency for monitoring weather and climate. Bringing together the resources of 30 Member States, we develop and operate a range of satellite systems surveying the atmosphere, ocean and climate that deliver information 24 hours a day. Our data is vital to weather forecasts that enable us to protect lives and property as well as monitoring the changing climate. EUMETSAT is now developing the next generation of satellite systems, shaping its long-term future.
     
    We are inviting applications from engineers with experience of the space sector and keen to work in a high availability, 24/7 operational environment. We have 2 roles that will provide suitable candidates the opportunity to support the preparation of operations of the future Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellites for the imaging mission (MTG-I satellites) and the sounding mission (MTG-S satellites).  In addition they will support routine operations of Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) and MTG satellites.

    Within the Meteosat Spacecraft Operations team of the Flight Operations (FLO) Division and report to the Meteosat Spacecraft Operations Manager, the two Meteosat Spacecraft Operations Engineers will support the preparation of operations of the future Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellites for the imaging mission (MTG-I satellites) and the sounding mission (MTG-S satellites). In addition they will support routine operations of Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) and MTG satellites. .

    DUTIES:
    The main duties will be as follows:

    • Participate in the operations preparation activities for the MTG satellites;
    • Support the MTG operations preparations activities at system level;
    • Provide technical coordination of MTG spacecraft operations preparation activities in the areas of:
      • MTG System Operational Validation including System Validation Test (SVT) and Operational System Validation (OSV) test campaigns.
      • Production and validation of the MTG operations preparation deliverables (e.g. Flight Operations Plans, documentation);
    • Support the integration and ensure the exchange of technical information between the MTG development programme and the Flight Operations Division for the various MTG ground segment facilities ( e.g. Satellite simulator, Mission Control system, Multi mission facilities for planning, monitoring and performance analysis);
    • Provide operations preparation support to the of the MTG Launch and Early Operations Phase (LEOP) services;
    • Support the space segment and system reviews, as required, ensuring the correct implementation of the MTG operational requirements;
    • Contribute to the specification, development / procurement follow-up, verification and validation for all operations preparations tools;
    • Participate to the definition and execution of MTG operational rehearsals and the necessary training activities for the various operations personnel prior to system commissioning;
    • Support the definition and execution of the MTG system commissioning activities;
    • Plan and execute routine operations of the Meteosat space segment components (including on-call support as necessary);
    • Within the Meteosat Operations team, support the MSG spacecraft operations as required, including maintenance of operational procedures and databases, anomaly investigations and participating in the ‘on-call’ schedule of the operations;
    • Interface with the MTG development programme, ESA and Space Segment industry as necessary;
    • Deputise for the MTG Spacecraft Operations Preparation Team Leaders as required.

    Meteosat Spacecraft Operations Engineers (2 posts) (VN 17/41) Job Requirements

    Along with a university degree (or equivalent) in an aerospace or engineering discipline, you should be able to demonstrate the following:

    • significant professional experience in the field of satellite operations, preferably gained during the development or operation of a geostationary space system
    • Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the implications for future routine operations of decisions taken during the development phase
    • excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to apply these to interactions within a team and between teams
    • attention to detail and the ability to synthesise technical concepts in formal documents and verbal presentations
    • excellent organisational and time-management capabilities including ability to work under stress and to meet tight deadlines
    • an independent worker with the motivation to follow through a number of different tasks with minimum supervision and ensure their completion to a quality standard
     
    Evidence of the following skills and experience is desirable:
    • Previous experience in satellite ground segment operations preparation related aspects;
    • Previous experience in satellite design, test and/or validation activities in an industrial context;
    • Knowledge of satellite system design and/or of satellite monitoring and control principles for safe and efficient operations;
