    Commercial Bid Manager – Airports EMEA Job Description

    Position and department
    Important elements of such proposals are competitive designs, calculating prices, analysis of risks and opportunities.At the Sales Engineering department it is all about understanding the requirements of the customer, doing what is needed to win the project and ensuring that what is offered is both competitive and feasible in terms of costs, solutions and planning. Due to increased complexity of tenders (both in technical solution and stakeholder management) Commercial Bid Management is rapidly becoming a critical department in winning large contracts. The Commercial Bid Manager reports to the Director Sales Engineering Airports. 

    Role and objective
    As Commercial Bid Manager – Airports EMEA you will be responsible to lead the team working on the commercial opportunity. Together with the Sales Manager and the Sales Engineering’s team, for the large and complex projects, the role involves definition of the strategy that leads to a winning and profitable bid and all day-to-day aspects of an individual bid. 

    Tasks and responsibilities
    In this role, you will:

    • Take responsibility for a commercial opportunity and translate customer specifications and requests into the winning proposal. For this you will coordinate all customer demands and solutions for technical, commercial and legal issues in a very dynamic environment. 
    • Manage the complete bid while being in close contact with the customer, and supporting departments like Pricing, Legal, Finance, Operations, Planning and Supply Chain.
    • Be a driving force in the progress of the bid and the development of creative solutions to complex problems
    • Lead the sales team and manage the preparation of the required documents and presentations and delivery in the right quality, on time and budget. 
    • Manage customers’ expectations for all deliverables throughout the process
    • In addition to your role as Bid Manager, you will also contribute to further optimization of the sales (engineering) process and improvement of sales materials.

    Commercial Bid Manager – Airports EMEA Job Requirements

    Job requirements
    For this demanding and challenging position, we ask you to bring to the table:

    • A Master degree (preferably in a business or commercial program).
    • 10+ years of relevant international working experience in technical sales  (preferably in the engineer-to -order automation industry)
    • A proven track record in complex international projects >50 million
    • Entrepreneurial skills in terms of innovation and problem solving are key along with tenacity and ability to influence stakeholders. Also have a high level of business acumen, understanding and dealing with risks and opportunities in a manner that is likely to lead to a good outcome.
    • Ability to challenge both the internal organization and external partners to get a competitive solution on technology, cost and risk management. 
    • A result oriented mindset; high ability to think, act and decide in a way that is aimed at achieving the intended objectives and results.
    • Experiences in formal tender processes, preferably in an international context.
    • Oversight on the process and the appropriate timing of escalation / interventions
    • Leadership flexibility in working with different cultures and business maturity levels.
    • Ability to communicate and influence on senior/director level with customers in opportunities. 
    • Commercial drive and ability to think from ‘outside-in’, instead of ‘inside out’
    • Proven track record with effective customer interaction (eg presentations, workshops).
    • Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
    • Willingness to travel frequently (> 20%)

    • Out of the box thinker, with strong commercial skills
    • Gets energized through dynamic, fast pace timelines in an internal context
    • Ability to develop a strategy and translate this into actions.
    • Excellent communicator and commercial experiences are crucial
