Product Development Engineer – System Architect
Our client is the world's largest manufacturer of passive electronic components. They develop, manufacture and sell components for telecommunications networks, computers, mobile phones, cars, airplanes, etc.
The plant in Leuven (Belgium – Flemish Brabant) employs approximately 1000 colleagues including more than one hundred engineers in many different departments and positions : R&D, ICT, manufacturing, industrial, packaging, product management, application engineering, technical support and sales engineers.
Your tasks:
As the system architect you will become a team member in a platform development program. The program runs in collaboration with third parties for the development and production of the different components of the system. The system is build up out of components within the following technology domains: optical, mechanical, electronics, software and mechatronics.
You are responsible for:
- Maintenance of the requirements, translating them into specifications for the different development and industrialization stakeholders, technical owner of the change control process
- You define the boundaries and interfaces of the technical system architecture and safeguard the adherence by the development partners
- Bringing the product concept to a mass manufacturable product: participation in design reviews, risk assessments and design FMEA’s and process FMEA’s with the team members and the partners, you apply DFSS / DMAIC techniques for problem solving when going from low profile production to high volume production.
- You define and follow up on the quality assurance plan of the system: structural and thermal analysis, reliability, … for which you use tools like FEA, DoE, Crystal ball
- Defining test strategies and test limits to guarantee quality of the different components and subcomponents of the system
- You assist in MSA studies for critical measurements
- Calculating product capabilities resulting in production specifications
- Follow up and coaching the first production runs from a technical/quality perspective
Product Development Engineer – System Architect Job Requirements
Your Profile:
- Master in mechanical engineering, master in electromechanics engineering, master in electronic engineering or equal by experience.
- At least +5 years of experience in a R&D environment, both in product development as in innovation projects.
- Experience with project work and project management.
- Certified Black Belt
- Profound Mechanical knowledge:
- Design experience: knowledge of engineering plastics, metals and material processing techniques (moulding)
- FEA tools.
- Tolerance analysis and statistical tolerancing
- Good Electronics and / or SW knowledge is an asset
- Language: fluent in English is a must.
Soft skills: good people skills, presentation and written skills, team player, communication skills, pro active and daring to take initiative and risk.
