Power Electronics R&D Lead Engineer (m/f) Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose:

The High Power Electronics (HPE) lab - where you will work - focuses on technology innovation in the field of variable speed drives, electric power conversion and grid integration of renewables. HPE is involved with worldwide customers in GE’s Transportation, Energy, Power Conversion (former Converteam) and Oil & Gas business

Essential Responsibilities:

You will work in a team which is very experienced in the design, development and test of high power converters with low and medium voltage semiconductors and all associated systems. The rapidly growing customer demand for energy efficient system solutions opens up new research and development opportunities for power electronics design and system engineers.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

• Lead the development of power converters (> 1 MW, up to 30 kV) from conceptual design, circuit topology and simulation for performance evaluation to full performance verification by experiment
• Specification and dimensioning of power semi-conductors, magnetics, DC capacitors, filters and drivers
• Integration technologies to realize very compact and reliable system designs
• Robust designs for harsh environments and extreme operating conditions
• Continuous interaction with our business project leaders to match requirements and provide results timely

Power Electronics R&D Lead Engineer (m/f) Job Requirements

Qualifications/Requirements:

• MS/Diploma degree in Electrical Engineering
• At least five years of industrial R&D experience in the field of power electronics
• Hardware experience with high power converters
• Broad background with simulation tools (e.g. Simulink, Simplorer, SABER or PLECS)
• Validation testing or high power converter commissioning experience
• Flexible, team-player, able to take initiative
• Fluency in English

• PhD in Electrical Engineering
• International/global experience
• Fluency in German
