(Site) Project Manager Job Description

Realisation of projects related to the construction of ships mostly on foreign (affiliated) shipyards, to ensure that the execution of contracts is completed on time, within budget and within the quality specifications established.  

Department Information

The Contracting & Yard Support (CYS) department provides tactical and operational support for foreign operating companies, in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer, Area Managers and Product Managers. CYS selects and reviews physical capabilities, limitations and risks of potential building sites and contracts outsourcing to production sites on behalf of DSGo. The department makes adequate technical support available to the product groups and foreign wok companies and it explores and supports the development of foreign subsidiaries.  

Tasks and responsibilities  

• Preparation of the construction and preparation of project plans related to the general plan (design drawings), specifications, delivery time, work and action list, etc., including holding construction meetings with the client, preparation of construction planning in consultation with the constructing shipyard and responsible for the delivery of required information, drawings, specifications, etc.
• Coordinate and oversee the construction process from Gorinchem and through regular visits to the relevant construction sites. Monitoring of scheduling, progress, quality and budget;
• Coordinate the commissioning, sea trials and delivery of the ship to the customer, in collaboration with the classification agency and our joint manufacturers and suppliers;
• Improve processes and products on design and detail level related to the various sub-processes, e.g. the engineering, procurement and construction process, prevent costs related to failures and improve quality;
• Manage the project team, take measures to ensure and monitor correct implementation of instructions.

(Site) Project Manager Job Requirements

• Ability to think and work at an HBO (Higher Vocational Education) level;
• Completed education in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering or equivalent;
• Good oral and written command of Dutch and English;
• Minimum 5 years relevant work experience;
• Knowledge of Project Management;
• Good communication skills;
• Ability to set priorities and maintain an overview;
• Organisational skills, quality conscious, flexible and customer-oriented.
