European Foundry Application Engineer Job Description
Job Purpose:
The job holder will have primary responsibility for the development, deployment and implementation of PLN strategies to ensure competitive edge solutions that brings customer value. This job requires ca. 30 to 40% travelling in Europe and South Africa. He is reporting to the European Product Manager – Ferrous Feeding Systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, deploy and delivering New Product Technologies and Service Concepts:
- interaction with international Marketing & Technology to implement Best Practice and application engineering requirements.
- Lead, manage and implement Product Launches:
- lead or participating x/cultural product launch teams;
- conducts application training and provides technical support in conjunction with product launches.
- Ensures Best Practice Transfer across Europe:
- identification of Best Practice transfer opportunities;
- active participation in European Ferrous Methoding Technical Meetings;
- develops customer case histories.
- Ensures up to standard and appropriate European Application Capability:
- provision- delivery of appropriate, internal training;
- liaise with local operating units ensuring application capabilities are fulfilled, maintained and improved.
- Ensure sustainable Key Customer Interactions:
- conducts capability and needs assessments;
- provision of technical support, training, and Best Practice transfer.

European Foundry Application Engineer Job Requirements
Qualification and Experience
- formal education to bachelor’s level in an engineering discipline (metallurgical, mechanical, foundry) or equivalent experience;
- masterly level steel and iron methoding and metallurgy (feeding, and metallurgical application skills);
- experience in computer simulation programs and techniques for steel and iron castings;
- 5+ years of experience in the foundry industry with strong methoding experience;
- active experience in foundry technology and processes, steel and iron methoding, and casting simulation, experience with MAGMA a plus;
- basic understanding in marketing principles and ability to think strategically skillful experience of project management with the ability to simultaneously manage and word as a member of several cross-discipline, cross-geographical and cross-cultural teams
- experienced communicator with good interpersonal and people skills
- good knowledge of English and another European language
- understanding foundry production costs and ability to calculate and justify EVC;
- strong drive and goal orientated.
