Head Engineering & Product design Job Description

The candidate is in charge for the further development of the team and the processes in order to change the current aftermarket focused processes towards the needs of OE business requirements. He/she will be part of NRF’s Industrial management team working with Dutch and India based colleagues with a direct report to the Director of the Industrial and Marine business unit who is located it the Netherlands. 

The position of the Head of Engineering and Product Design is a new position with the focus of strengthening our existing OE business and answering the increasing needs of professional processes within our organization. He/she should be a self-starter being able to structure R&D processes. Having held a similar position with experience in leading a team is a must have for this position. Having a passion for engineering as well as the willingness to walk the extra mile is what we expect for this opportunity. The position is based in our European headquarters in The Netherlands. 
 

Head Engineering & Product design Job Requirements

Leadership 

• Must have the ability to supervise and mentor an engineering department of varying skill levels.
• Should be able to demonstrate some commercial experience and knowledge of common Terms & Conditions.
• Must have experience of personnel resource management techniques (appraisals, succession planning, training plans, use of targets etc).
• Must be able to demonstrate experience in the development and implementation of engineering control systems (eg ECN, PDM etc).
• Must have the ability to devise/implement an engineering design process and ensure compliance.
• Must be able to demonstrate an understanding for the balances between control versus flexibility and cost versus risk in developing a suitable engineering management system.
• Should have a good working knowledge of employment and product legislation in at least one legal jurisdiction.
• Dutch and English – preferably German.

• Must have a through understanding of the design of heat exchangers for single phase forced convection applications from first principles.
• Must have a high level of understanding of fluid mechanics.
• Must have knowledge of methods to determine friction factor for various flow channel configurations and the use of velocity head in determining system pressure losses.
• Knowledge of phase change thermodynamics.
• Good appreciation of turbulence, vortex generation, boundary layer development, CFD.
• Must have a good grounding in mechanical design from first principles; beam & plate theory, columns, stress/strain analysis, sufficient to be able to use/supplement mechanical design codes and interpret FEA data.
• Knowledge of noise assessment
• Knowledge of practical vibration analysis and SHM theory.
• A basic/good understanding of metallurgy and corrosion in relation to common heat exchanger materials is essential.
• Good understanding of heat exchanger manufacturing techniques, in particular welding, aluminium brazing, roller expansion.
